In search of some ideas on how to revive this 235…Recently picked up a 55 chevy truck that I’m trying to get going that seemed to be a ran when parked kinda project. Replaced coil, condenser, ignition resistor, distribitor rotor, spark plugs & wires, and threw on a new carb. I seem to have good spark but can’t seem to get it to fire. Plugs look dry and dont smell fuel on them. I pulled the carb and looked down the intake and looks like the fuel was just sitting pooled in there? Possible full of carbon in there or something? Checking compression tomorrow (yes I know should of done first) but wondering if anyone else has ideas on what im missing.I’ve rarely had issues getting these motors going lol
235's are awesome! Did you get it running? Have you confirmed that the fuel pump has strong/steady output. Disco the line and crank it. New carb has no issues? Timing, as suggested by D Newcomb
Id grab a meter and start checking voltage. Verify it’s getting the proper amount carb squirting? enough fuel pressure? everything tight? Double check firing order and timing on the dizzy I’ve removed valve covers and bopped valves to make sure they’re not stuck. had one a month ago my son had to long a fuel hose to the pump. It was kinked. Always check the simple stuff.
spark plug wires in correct order? Distributor cap may need replacement if rotor needed replacement. light oil in cylinders to help unstick rings maybe check valve settings - who knows what was done previously?? dead old gasoline?
Hope you saved all the parts you took out, since we no longer can trust new parts. No one has asked yet - does the dist. turn when you crank it ? High mileage Chev 6 fiber cam gears tend to strip, which caused many to be parked, not fixed ...
