Technical Chevy 250 help needed

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 36roadster, Jul 26, 2023.

  1. I am using a 250 from a Nova I've been told, and have it fired up, but am not getting the trickle of oil from any lifter gear. These use the same rockers as the SBS and the local Holden 6, so I reckon there should be a little trickle of oil up the pushrod, along the rocker, and out the little drain hole. The top sounds OK, as if it had lube, but I would like to know that there's oil actually getting there. I have good oil pressure at the port on the block (45 psi at idle), so it looks like the oil pump is OK. Next thing I investigate is the oil level. Having just been caught with a 235 fitted with the wrong dipstick, I would like to know the measurement for the right dipstick. I know I can drain the sump, and start from scratch to fill to the manual's spec, but it just copped a charge of new oil (up to the right level according to the dipstick), so I just need a measurement for the correct dipstick if anyone has one handy. The dipstick hole is just below the oil pressure port on the RHS of the motor. I have a 194 which I was going to compare it to, but the dipstick is in a different location (near the distributor).
