hi! I have a chevrolet small block 265 from 55. (no oilfilter) And it has a number in front, wich I think that tells what car and maybe tranny it had mounted.. can someone help me maybe? Number: 00II033GB Sorry about my bad spelling, im from sweden =) regards christian (cast date: A125)
Cast date is January 12 1955 The stamped number does not match what Chevy says it should be?? Does not match the truck engine codes either. (from the Chevrolet Restoration Info kit) http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits.html
I had a 265 that I could not give away once. Turned out to be a replacement block that could be 265 or 283 if bored out, had no filter pad as well. No one wanted it becauce casting # or ser # ment nothing.
Here's a thread that has been on the shelf for a while. Does not hurt to ask here as well. http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=416175
Hi guys! So I maybe have a early replacement block? I just love this engine, there is so many differents from 56 up. Im missing lots of connecting rods and pistons, Does chev 302 fit? Its the same stroke and bearing and tap size..? I figured out that the block is made 12th januari 1955 (A125) So, whats the deal with the distrubiter? Ive got a Mallory cris craft model, that i low buildt and a cool looking cap! Can I use that? thanks!
One thing to remember is a notch that MUST be in the cam to oil the lifters correctly on a '55 engine.
The connecting rods from any 1955-1961 Chevy 265 or 283 should fit. You will need pistons for a 265, or you might be able to bore the block to 283 bore size (3.875) but you should get the block sonic checked to make sure the cylinder walls are thick enough.
Hi! I've checked on the camshaft(witch is in good condition) a machined surface at the rearend! S274 marked as well.. Im going to refresh my cylinders, and check and measure. I think it can be used with std bore..
