Just picked up a hopped up 292 and im looking for a good street transmission that will bolt right up. Not sure if it will bolt up the factory 3pd manual in my 50 gmc, but if ya got any info let me know. thanks.
i could be wrong, but if its the original ****** i don't think it will work. the 292 has the same bolt pattern as a SBC.
If you have a bellhousing for a manual trans to go behind a sbc or bbc you can bolt up your stock trans.
Watch out for the flywheel bolts...some 292s have the same 7/16" bolts and single dowel hole as the small blocks, others have larger 1/2" bolts and 3 dowels.
If you run the earler V8 truck bellhousing that has the motormounts on the bellhousing you can hook that to the crossmember and install the 292. And yes you can run the 53 trans and rear end with that setup but they might be a bit weak for the torque of the 292. If you run the starter that bolts to the block you will have to cut the bottom corner off the bellhousing where it curves around so that the starter that bolts to the bellhousing can bolt up. The good thing is that once you have set up you can swap out to a full syncro 3 speed, or 4 speed and open driveline very easily. One thing to look for though is that the hole in the bellhousing that the bearing support for the front of the trans comes in two diameters. I've had that setup with a 250 and full sycro 3 speed and Nova ten bolt in my 48 for the past 20 years.
