I have been lurking and have not seen what I was looking for. Has anyone bagged a straight axle on an AD truck? I would like to maybe bag my truck and want to see if this has been done and how you do it. So Hambers please give me some info you have not ever failed me yet!

About as low as you are going to be able to go is the height my truck sits in my avatar with three leaves removed if you use a stock axle. As my truck sits there is about 1-1/2 inches between the top of the cut down bump stop and the frame. A dropped axle would get it lower but the way it sits was supposed to be a temporary thing in 1989 that became a permanent thing.

A dropped axle and placing the bags so you could get the axle down to the frame might work to get it lower though.

You would need a 4-link and an panhard bar. It's a bunch of work.

    There will be steering issues.

    Why do you want bags?

There is six or eight different axels avalible. There is 5 way to drop the axle you got.
There is many different springs avalible, with different spring rate, layers and reversed Eyes. And single layer posies.
There are 3-5 different shock, time 5-6 trusted brands.
There is a lot of steelies and better tires available.

You can get your old truck to ride so much better, with out bags.

The only exceptions to bags is bags at the rear. You can make a 1 ton car ride like a 1/2 truck, even with 1 ton in the back.
But that a whole different story all together.

  5. Never done it.
Big trucks with bags on the front axle use mono leaves.

Thanks for the quick replies all. If i just get 3 inch drop springs front and rear and keep my straight axle set up, how does it ride? I know it wont be like IFS but i do not really want to go that route if i dont have to.
