Just take a plug wire off. It’ll give you a choppy idle and most folks won’t know the difference.:p:D:D:D

That engine block was used from ~1970 to 1975. It was used well into the smog era. It could have been found in anything from a dump truck, to a Camaro.

In that era, the Van Nuys (Los Angeles Metro Area) built Camaros. The engines were built in separate engine building facilities. That will only be revealed by the block code on the front pad.

The casting number is just that, the ID of the block-cl***, and intended finish.

This is a casting that is intended to be finished with 4-inch bores. That is the only thing that the casing number means.

The number of main bearing cap bolts is a finishing process. It can be applied to any small block Chevy (and many other engines). I can even duplicate the process in my shop. The only way to confirm how many is to pull the oil pan.

The numbers that you are looking for are on that pad. They are likely encased in thick paint. The only way that it would be missing is if the block deck surface was heavily machined, and it would take a lot to get them gone. Even over-the-counter crate engines had numbers there.

Exposing those is the only way that you will even know what this block came from. Pulling a valve cover and getting the casting number from a cylinder head. That will help with the identification.
