    Hello all;

    I have a 1994 Chevy 350 in a 1950 Chevy Sedan Delivery and it has the two speed transmission in it.

    I would like to know what kind of tranny I need to look for to put a 3 or 4 speed transmission into it.

    Any ideas what to look for, what's good to have? part no's, anything would be helpful.

    The transmission you have is probably a Powerglide. If I were doing it I would put a 700R4 in the car. It's got a very low 1st to get you rolling and an overdrive 4th for good mileage. Win, win situation. Any trans other than the 'glide will probably necessitate a new driveshaft and re-location of the trans mount so you might as well get something worth your while.

    700R4 is a good way to go but I would use a toggle switch on the dash or a shifter to be able to lock out the OD when you don't need it

    As long as it's an aluminum Powerglide you have now, and it's the 28" long unit, then a TH350 with short shaft will bolt right in. You probably would'nt want the 9" or 12" extension housing TH350 trans, you'd really need to shorten the drive shaft with one of those. The trans mount location is the same Powerglide/TH350. Your drive shaft will work with possibly the exception of the slip yoke. Glides came with course and fine fine output shafts; TH350 only fine. A 200R4 will also fit, but the trans mount will need to be moved. TH400 and 700R4 will need different slip yokes and shorter drive shafts, and a different trans mount location. If you have a cast iron Glide, and it's 28" long, the same pretty much applies, but the yoke will need to be replaced. There are some 25" long aluminum Glides, AND cast iron Glides, that came in X-frame cars, and there's even an extremely rare, long Glide, I think it's 36". Doubtful you have any of those, but if you do, plan on shortening/lengthening the driveshaft. Butch/56sedandelivery.
