I’m trying to figure out if body parts (cab & front clip) from a 55 chevy 3800 or 4400 truck will interchange with a 1/2 ton.
I’ve got access to a 1955 half ton but like most it’s rusty in the top of the can behind the windshield, the eyebrows and nose of hood. I’ve found a super solid 4400 (1.5 ton) cab & chassis.
I haven’t dabbled in this body style much so I’m reaching out to those with more wisdom and experience with them. I did a forum search first and didn’t find the answers.
    Thanks in advance

you can look up the part numbers in the Chevy parts book online, and know for sure.

it takes a while to learn how to read this document, though. Get familiar with the Illustration Index, then figure out what Group Numbers mean, and you're on your way.

Generally the cabs are all the same, except for the cabover (5000 series) models. The fenders are different once you get to the 4000 series, the wheel openings are larger, and they had different grilles and grille surrounds on the larger trucks.

If you have trucks sitting there you can look at, but they're at different locations, take pictures from several angles and compare them carefully.

  4. The fenders are wider, I mistakenly bought an eyebrow patch panel at Carlisle one yr, thought it was 1/2 ton but layed over the top like grannies table cloth.

Half Ass Kustoms has a some YouTube videos on installing repair panels above the windshield on a 1959 Chev truck as well a some on patching rust on the truck. I check in regularly on his YouTube as he is always doing great work with simple toools & processes.
