chevy big block mystery casting number

I haven't posted here in a while but I have a project that I am working on with a friend. We are trying to figure out what motor he's got without tearing it down. It is a big block chevy and supposed to be a 454. If you look the casting number up it doesn't show up in the standard lists you find on line. It is off by one digit. The number is as follows 3999288. Any help with this would be appreciated.

it prob reads 3999289

 

I'm with Tinker. The last three digets of mine are 289, and I know for a fact it came out of a '78 3/4 ton GMC p/u.

 

If it is a 454 it has a weight cast in the balancer I'm with everyone else the number probably is 3999289 no mystery just another shitty casting number . I have 10 BBC blocks and half of them you can barely read, if at all

 

post the numbers that are stamped on the deck up front....if they're still there...
