The P ch***is was used on bread trucks, tool trucks, small rv's, that sort of thing. We had some P ch***is on some p***enger vehicles. GM sold the P to Workhorse who later became part of Navistar. Parts that were on other GM ch***is we could get from GM. Parts unique (such as the steering column) to the P ch***is we had to get from Workhorse, and they were expensive.

Are the same front suspension width as a regular 1 ton?

I'm sorry, I do not know if the suspension width is the same. If you have a GMC truck dealer around (a dying breed I know) see if they have a parts guy that knows. I know we replaced the a arms a few times, but I can't remember if we did it before GM sold to Workhorse or not. We got a lot of the parts from a GMC/Peterbuilt/Workhorse dealer in Portland Oregon. I will see if I have there number at work today and get back to you.

I've gone throuh probably 20 or more COE's, and the $5,000 price isn't good. You can get a truck in the $1,000 range and usually find a doner 1 ton for about the same if that's what you are going to do. Pay for the sheet metal-the running gear is cheap. I've paid no more than $1500 for projects, and that was for a very nice 41 Diamond T COE, delivered. Keep looking-there are lots out there. Remember that the 47 and earlier Fords are their own body, but the rest are truck cabs that have been modified with welded in panels to make it a COE, so pickup parts fit most of the Chev's, Dodge's, GMC's and 48-up Fords. The 47 earliler Fords are 7" wider than a 39 pickup (their base body) and only some door and interior parts interchange. Good luck-they're fun when done right.

Found another chevy with a late model 3/4 ton frame under it, does anybody know if a 1 ton dually rotor fit on the 3/4 ton spindle? If I buy it I want to covert it all to 1 ton dually stuff.

  8. Just FYI, if the freeze plug is pushed out it means the water in the block froze and you are likely looking at it being cracked in other places.
