    Hello

I'm looking for information to hop up the -28 Chevy engine. My intention is to build a original style speedster out of the miscalleous parts I have. So, nothing modern solutions exept the replacement parts. There seems to be a lot of such information for Ford products available, but not that much for Chevy. Any good tips and hints are welcome.

    Best regards

    Hi, Riz ...
    Welcome aboard ...
During the 1990s the VCCA "Generator & Distributor" had a 4 cylinder column that covered some of the early aftermarket "high speed" parts. Chev 4s with 3 port Olds heads were a compe***ive engine until WWII - try the AHRF site - good luck !

Thanks. I'm already familiar with the VCCA chat and there is actually couple of other fellows who are interested about old speedter tuning and are looking for information. However, VCCA wants to hold on their principles and stay in the restoration information. Also, the people that hang around the VCCA chat have less information about the tuning since they do restoration. I was in hope that there would be more people that are familar with the subject.
The three-port-head is a legend, but actually a stock -28 head is better in performance. The olds head became famous already before the -28 head was introduced. Three-port-heads today are really hard to find artefacts especially here (Finland).
I'll look for the AHRF site and see.

  4. Howdy Rizhto, any relation to Paavo?

Since it's 4am in North America (yes, I am an insomniac), you might want to bump this back to the top in 4 or 5 hours. You should get better response.

    All the best.

Yep, I noticed that this forum gains hundreds of posts in a day, where most of the other forums suffer from lack of writers. A little categorisation might help.
No, as far as I know, I'm not related. Nurmi is a**** the most common family names in the country.

Thanks for this tidbit of important info. I've got an NOS 28 head...now I feel better about using it instead of searching for an Olds 3-port.

The subject of Chevy 4 modifications has been brought up several times recently, but so far, only a little information has been forthcoming. Here are some of the threads:

There are several of us looking for more info.

Thanks for the links. Where are all the Chevy four wizards? Hope they're not all p***ed away. Looksi like we have to start building the engines by mistake-and-learn method and start distripute the knowledge we gain to each others.
The advantage of -28 head to earlier ones is mainly due to bigger valves and better rocker arm ratio. The flow, as far as I know, is pretty much the same in -28 and three-port.

I once read that rocker arms from a '30s Nash OHV six could be used to advantage on an early Chevy 4. Supposedly, they fit the Chevy shaft and offered a steeper ratio.

Good tip, I'll mark that up. More of these little things, please.
