Need tech help because I dug myself deepest hole.
I did not know drill and cutoff wheel would be more destructive than torch. My house is 1960 so not enough amps for welding 1/8 or thicker steel.
I cut through, scored and enlarged the 16-holes on the frame for the front crossmember.
Expert said weld damage and grind smooth.
But car on jack stands and engine in car. I do not think mobile welder can reach over fender and weld frame down below. Lying on floor does not have good access to damage area on this old Corvette.
What is alternative? What about thick steel wedge to sandwich the frame with crossmember? Also, what about just bolt on crossmember, get car running to get to a shop where on car lift, they can weld steel bracket from crossmember to frame?
    Thank you,
    Eric

  3. what was the plan? original rivets? how were you going to do that?
maybe drill up to the next bolt size, use a heavy washer to bolt it together then take it to a shop to weld the washers. make sure to clean all the surfaces well.

Weld the holes and redrill. You would only need a 110 mig to build up that area. A good welder will have no problem with most of that. If one or two can't be reached it will it will be no big deal.
