Can anyone advise how to identify the make and model of as Chevy car from the stamp on the windshield which is called a "bug" I have 2 windshields I think one is for a '56 and one for a '57????? Number 1: E-Z-Eye SAFETY LOF PLATE AS-S JX SOLID Number 2: SOLID SAFETY LOF PLATE AS-2 I X Thanks - I'm thinking it's a long shot.
Measure the center of the gl***, top to bottom. 55-56 is different than 57, 55-56 has the same gl*** in a 2 door and a wagon, but I'm not sure about 57. I can look when I'm back at the shop, but Google could answer you quicker lol
All 55-57 gl*** is the same for sedans and wagons. Hardtop, convertible and Nomad is shorter. Same for Pontiac.
Hollander says 55 and 56 are the same, but 57 is all by itself 55-56 hardtops are 1614 and 57 is 1620. these are hardtops
Don't quote me on this, but I think it has something to do with the slope of the gl*** being different on the '57's. I could be COMPLETELY off on this and thinking of something else, though. Somebody around here HAS to know for sure... I think. The AS-2 IX gl*** is a rear window made in June of 1955. Not sure what the AS-S is. It was made in May of 1955 though, according to the JX code. Windshields usually started with an AS-1 code. Pic's of what you have would sure help a ton...
Yeah that's what I was thinking, if he thinks that one is a 56 and the other is a 57, the taller should be the 57, I believe anyway lol.
Thanks to all - I hadn't thought they could be possibly be rear curved gl*** - but the center vertical measurements are 17" and 18" Measuring the front of the windshield on my '57 is 18" so that agrees with what I am reading. The Investigation continues......... I'm going tot stop by a local auto gl*** place this week.
