Hello, working on a customers 69 396 big block Chevy that is a half breed on the oil filter boss. Other machinists know it was a 1 year deal. It was a canister, but the boss is not like the older ones. It looks like you can bolt a new style bypass nipple in and then a spin on would work, BUT, the shoulder for the o-ring is too narrow and could possibly roll the o-ring into towards the center cavity. I've searched the wix book for a bigger o-ring base filter with no luck. Has anybody found a bigger filter that would work or am I stuck with the canister setup?
Can you post a picture...? if not that's ok, it should be able, to be transformed ,to a spin on by one of 2 or 3 different types of adapters....
The 69 bypass is on the left, older style on right. 2nd pic is of 69 block (note bigger cavity or narrower ledge) 3rd is newer block (smaller cavity or wider ledge for full contact of o-ring on filter) 4th pic is of an older std canister style filter boss. I've been looking at the TD 1024 adapter that I normally use, and I believe I can machine the lip down that is keeping the adapter's o-ring from seating down and sealing. Probably only option i have. Thanks
Just get one of the conversion kits to mount a spin-on filter. Most of those kits use a FORD intended filter with a built in pressure relief valve/by-pass valve, because the stock one gets deleted. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
