Really huh?! I like your ramhorn manifolds better than my headers though. I haven't had the guts to try to take mine though cause I'm afraid of snapping off the bolts in the heads. I wanna paint mine with VHT.
I'd say go with orange. My car isn't a Chevy and my engine isn't an SBC, but if you'd like to see my Flathead painted an orange-copper color in the chassis, click my signature link.
The Smallblocks in my 34 Plymouth in my 62 Impala and in my 56 BEl Air are orange, but in different shades. The ones in the Plymouth and Bel Air are red mixed with copper 1:1 and the Impala is a stocker, so the engine was just painted chevy orange...
i painted my chevy engine black 1991 this winter im going gold my 472 engine in my cadillac 1949 is gold metallic
I herd of people painting chevys all sorts of colors and they run the strongest orange. I did hear that. lol
what type of valve covers are you using? If you're using chrome or aluminum I'd say the block color doesn't matter as much. If you're using the factory steel, I'd say you have to go orange.
Try finding an oil leak on a black engine. It'll drive ya nuts! That's the voice of experience talkin'. I like painting the engine a bright red on a black car. Chrome and aluminum look good on it and it's very traditional.
Finally! As you can see, I went orange. Thanks for the responses. It kinda verified I'm not the only one.
So why not Allis Chalmers tractor orange? I painted my engine with Valspar paint that was bought at TSC, spray can paint. WD45 paint color should be old enough to be traditional. ?
If your aiming for an era, that will help your color choice. Black block is later and industrial. Red would be '50's. Chebbie orange '60's. If you go black-n-red all over the car you will be following the herd that has media whipped into another trend. BREAK FREE!
Was gonna have a local racer bend me a set but after getting my column in position and seeing how tight things are..... maybe fenderwell?
i like black if you have alot of chome but if it,s a custom you can paint it the stock color and keep the hood close
prime the engine, then spray silver and finish it with the orange, the silver will make the orange stand out.
I guess this is the reason I paint all my British car engines BLACK- For yours, may I suggest dull alunimun high temp Krylon as it also goes with everything. Cheers
