I am a YouTube junkie and I am planning on restoring my 1955 Chevy so I thought I would combine my "talents" and see if anyone could suggest a Chevy restoration video series and/or web blog on the subject. Specifically I want to do a complete frame off restoration and I want to acid dip the body and start from scratch so a video with that process in mind would be most helpful. A video/ blog specific to the tri-five would be most interesting however if there is a video that does another car brand I would be interested in that as well. THANKS!!!
Sounds like you just need to find the .gif version of this image by that I mean there are plenty of nice restored 55 chevys around, that you can buy for half of what it will cost you to do what you plan to do.
A frame off restoration is a pretty ambitious project. What is your current skillset? How much of the work do you plan to do yourself? Do you have a budget and how much time do you have to dedicate to the process? What is your final vision for the car, are you planning to drive it, or win first place at pebble beach? Is this a car you are planning to keep forever? I don't want to discourage you, but its been my experience that the majority of ambitious frame off restoration projects never get completed. You better want a restored 55 chevy real bad because you will never financially recover from what you have invested in it. Restoring a car is 95% grunt work, unlike Tv and youtube there is little to no glory in the process. If the car isnt completely wasted you might be better off to get it running and driving first, then restore one component or assembly at a time, that way you can still drive and enjoy the car when morale gets low. While not a tri five, the Coldwarmotors 1960 fury video playlist goes into a lot of detail on extensively rebuilding a car. Also check out "DDspeedshop" and "Restodan" on youtube, they both do a lot of trifive stuff on a budget.
