I've been trying to find the trans to bell pattern for the two tranny's for a couple days and keep coming up short. I'm trying to compare them so I can make sense of this. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/ford_to_gm.htm Sounds like the Ford tranny can be adapted to the Chevy bell fairly easy. I'm kicking an idea around for a 3.7 Mercruiser powered t-bucket.
That looks pretty doable if you can drill a straight hole. I'd probably take the bell housing and bearing collar to the machine shop together though as it's easier for them to do their own measuring on things like this. If you didn't have the drills and taps you could have them do it all and it shouldn't cost too much.
I think you'll find the toploader bolt pattern is different from the NP435 and T18 truck transmission bolt patterns... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78455 might help?
