Ok..just scored a 1983 chevy s-10 complete truck 2.o L it does have a 4 speed manual transmission....i measure the 2 top bolts on the bell housing ...looks like 4" 1/2 center to center...looks the same bolt pattern as my 292 6 banner...not sure...was dark and flashlight batts going dead...has mechanical clutch linkage...what is this transmission....sorry no pics...im sure some here knows...tell me i scored big!!! <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
Yeah that should work. check the search option on this site if will have what other parts your gona need along with some ideas of how to go about it.
i got a funny feeling i don't need an adapter...im sure someone here knows the transmission i am talking about...is it a pre-t5 transmission <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
It is a T-4 Borg Warner. Not to good for hard launches, OK for a cruiser, but no overdrive means high revs, so not good for long trips. They don't handle alot of torque, thats why they were coupled to 2.0L 4-tech.
I'll go along with the above advice, but the price is right. Put it in then if you want or need a T-5 it will drop right in, all the work was already done. BTW, I'd use it.
will it bolt up to my 292 inliner or sbc <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
i can assume i do not need an adapter...will bolt right on? <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
Since its first cousin, the T-5, usually needs minor mods to work on older Chevy engines (trimming down of pilot shaft and/or throwout collar), I imagine that you will need to go the same route with the T-4. Like some of the other guys already alluded to----why bother? The whole point of the excersize with a T-5 is to gain overdrive. I'd just bolt a Saginaw four speed to it before I'd use a T-4.
SO ANY LINKS WOULD BE APPRECIATED....ALL FACTS NO FICTION....AN EARLY T-4 IS NOTHING TO STICK ONES NOSE UP AT................... <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
Build your rod with the T4, find a T5 in the mean time, when the 4speed blows up, drop your T5 in it...It will be a direct bolt in.
I agree with Heathen. If you just want practice swapping out trannies, install the T-4. I am guessing you will be swapping to a T-5 pretty quick.
I guess I've just got a different prospective...when it comes to what transmission I'm going to use, I don't base the decision on what I can get for free.
