Putting a flathead transmission behind a Chevy 153 4 cylinder (which seems to be same as small block) ..What pilots bear and throw out bearing is used in this application? Thank you
IF it’s the same as the V8, Speedway sells the correct pilot bushing. If you are using the standard early Ford to Chevy adapter, use the early Ford T/O bearing If the flywheel is standard Chevy drilled for it, use the Borg and Beck #988-1310 pressure plate, 49-51 Mercury piece. Cores are scarce, meaning pricey. Ft Wayne Clutch or Kentucky Clutch. Use the early Ford clutch disc.
Good advice above then - speedway makes the pilot bushing and there is a merc clutch core in the classifieds on here now - send it out to ft Wayne Clutch for a rebuild and get a new disc from them too - use the stock Ford throw out and one of the many adapters available to bolt the trans to the sbc
Looking for some Examples of Ford flathead pilot bearings and ( I put in 64) chevy II pilot bearings I came up with these. ID of the Ford pilot bearing is .6693 while the ID of the Chevy II busing is .593. For the price the brash pilot bushing from Speedway isn't a bad deal. I'd like to have a bit more meat on the stub that sticks out past the end of the crank though.
this is the pilot bushing that came with a speed gems sbc adapter. Haven’t put it together yet. I’m using a 50 merc disc and pressure plate. 3703870 is the gm flywheel I’m using.
