FYI I have a set of 58 348 tri power carbs and I checked the jet sizes ; 65 both front and rear. Also, every 3x2 manifold I've seen advertised says it's only good to 5500 rpm, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't use it.
FYI the center carb I have might be correct , but someone has done a poor repair on the linkage arm. It is soldered on instead of factory "stake". I had J-2 set on a 327 in the 80's and IIRC the center carb had 61 jets and the end carbs 63. That was a long time ago, so for what it's worth.
I had most of the same problems you have with yours. My three Rochester 2 GCs just would not idle right and I had stumbling issues when I'd get on it. I tried fixing the end carb bases and epoxied the idle screws and all that and nothing worked. Finally I called Vintage Speed in Florida and Charlie sent me two new end bases and new center ****erflies and shaft. Put it all together and it ran perfect till the day I sold it ( and after ). It cost me about $ 350.00 but was well worth it.
My tri power setup is one of Charlie's. just didn't want to get into a pro-con Vintage speed discussion. Rich
Dropped my original primary carb off at Vintage speed yesterday. Charlie is going to swap out some internals that could be screwing up the idle circuit. We had a great lunch at Sonnys and a lot of old stories, and hot rod talk. Will let you guys know how it works when he is done. Meanwhile I am driving the wheels off this thing with my old stock rebuilt Rochester as the primary. Wish I had tried this in the beginning! Rich
