Has anyone found a good way to adapt a pre '86 style intake to vortec heads ? I'm trying to put a set of webers on my vortec head crate motor.
does your heads have 4 intake bolts per side or 6? late vortec heads have 4 per side and they are vertical not square to the intake ports. early vortec heads have 6 per side with just the two center bolts being vertical. -danny
When these heads first became the hot tip about 7 or 8 years ago I know Scoggin ****y Chev out of I believe Texas was re-machining them to accept standard older Chevy intakes. I don't know if that is still the case, or if they are still in business, but you might google them and see. Worse comes to worse, if you need me to I can dig through many years of Car Craft to find the article if you need. Just give me a P.M.
I did it on mine. Bolted a mid sixties Offy Tri-Power intake to a set of 92 heads and just slotted the holes in the intake and used 4 wedge washers. works perfect. As long as you have the 6 hole heads ( pre 96 I believe ) no problem!!!!
You are talking the Vortec heads with the vertical manifold bolts right? If so the Scoggin ****ey deal is the only one I know of. I'm pretty sure they plugged the holes for the vertical attachment and redrilled for the old style pattern. I've seen allot of answers here saying to slot the holes and go, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't apply to the actual Vortec head, just the center bolt style.
It's the 4 bolt style late vortec. I'm ready to stick a manifold in the mill, machine the top off and weld on weber flangers - there must be an easier way.
