About 2 weeks ago got a letter from John Buck Enterprises, announcing that my 29 RPU, (Chief) was accepted into the suede palace. Holy shit. I figured my application photos were a little suspect, so didn't think there was going to be a chance to get in when I didn't hear from them earlier. This means I hadn't been too focused on finishing it, until the letter... At that time it looked about like this... Nothing is really bolted up, just kinda sitting there, waiting. I had spent alot of time on doing time consuming stuff, floor, steering arm, started bellypan... I figured, 2 weeks, no problem. First week for show, second week for go. TP
What was I thinking. Usually I make check off lists, but I'm really glad I didn't do that too early. For some reason, I thought the bellypan was an important part to get finished. At least the front part anyway. I spent alot of time making these look like road signs! Of course the oil filter had to be mounted first... This pic looks the same as the other one huh? Yep, but now everything is actually bolted on. Windshield, dash rail, package tray, lotsa invisible stuff. Amazing how much time it takes doing this little stuff. Of course the front brakes were in little pieces, for about 2 months now. Fortunately didn't lose parts to those slave cylinders! Oh yeah, the wiring! TP
Time just flew by. Last thursday it was far from finished. Fortunately my cousin has a dune buggy trailer. the bed on saturday sunday... Monday through on all the mechanical stuff, of course after cleaning them up as good as possible. My hand feel like meatballs. The fact that it was a complete car at one time made it seem like it would go together quickly. Ha! It's been fun but I put aside work for the last week almost. Crazy hours into this. Today is the last day. So much to do. Lat night did the brake lines. Today it will be fuel pump, fuel lines, some wiring. Don't know if it will be running or stopping really, but i'm trying! Anyway there's about 15 hours left to work! Better get off this dang computer! TP
Hey Sod, good to hear. I copied alot of pics from that to here, my mind is a little fried right now so can't do anything original! Just looking at pics I see more stuff I need to do! TP
I'm sure I'll get to admire all your hard work and effort this weekend. I have a friend going through the same process to get his car there in time.
Very cool, Zibo! Looking forward to checking it out in a couple days. We fly out from Omaha tomorrow morning. Malcolm
Freakin Travis, I knew you were up to no good. Its about time you got the "Cheif" up and running. Will se you on saturday.
Yo Danny! Check out the firewall, you may recognize something! Amazingly a friend, Luke and I got it running, its so bitchin after over a year in pieces to see it together. Still going to trailer it too pomona, but at least I can drive it into the grounds, well after adjusting and bleeding the brakes... Anyway see ya out there, I'll be the guy sleeping underneath the RPU! TP
Was very cool to see in person... really a neat little car. Congrats on getting it together and to the show!
Travis, Thanks so much for the advance shop tour. Your RPU cam out great. Really like all the details and bits that makes it your Rod ! Now have fun with it ! Dave
