I watched Chinatown last night in HD. It stars Jack Nicholson and Faye Duniway (or as I used to call her "Fadin away"), and it was made in 1974. It's a detective show about L.A. in the '30s. It's got some pretty cool cars in it. A really nice big white Packard convertible, and a '35 Ford Phaeton. Pretty good movie if you've never seen it before. I'd seen it a few times about 20 years ago, but forgot about the cool cars in it. Jack Nicholson has some great wise-*** lines like usual. That Packard sure is beautiful with that creamy white paint-job and the huge wide whitewalls.
Great flick, I have it on VHS and DVD. The Ford he wrecked in the orange grove was a rental from a local car owner. It was agreed upon before the stunt that the car would be crashed and the owner would be compensated for the repairs. Replacement parts were rounded up in advance of the shoot scene. Bob
I'm 27 yrs. old and I get a bunch of old movies thru netflix. You should watch High Sierra, it stars Bogart and has a real bad*** chase scene at the end. Definitely one of my favorite old movies.
favorite line: after he almost gets his nose cut off nicholson is asked "does it hurt?" he answers "only when i breathe..." ha.
wow... look at those pics of ol' Jack. he's been an old fart for so long I just thought he was born that way.
Hey, Rent " Little Shop of Horrors " for a very young Jack. S****ey Devils C.C. "Meanwhile, back aboard The Tainted Pork''
An even younger Jack plays a hoodlum in a terrible, low budget hot rod movie. I don't know the name of it.
"pretty good movie if you haven't seen it before" RustyBolts, this film was nominated for more than 20 academy awards. Robert Towne won best original screenplay and his Oscar-winning script is still considered to be perfection in the screenwriting world. Roman Polanski was also nominated for best director, and both Jack and Faye were nominated as well. You could say this film is to filmmakers what the 49-51 Merc is to customizers.
Are you guys aware that it was Roman Polanski(accused of *** with a minor, and was the father of Sharon Tate's baby)that cut Jack's nose in that scene? Little trivia...
The sequel to China Town is called the Two Jakes. Nother good movie. I recall a hudson convertible in that one.
