Me and a buddy were talking about this this weekend and I think a big reason why he builds what he does is because thats what the customer wants. For some god awful reason the majority of folks like that 2 tone big wheel crap so hell thats what he is going to build. On the TV show they ask the owners family/friends whatever what they like and Chip incorporates that into his build as well. I gaurantee if you said to build him a more traditional type of car he would satisfy a few more of you. I think he gets a little carried away as well too but i bet alot of sponsors are contributing to the builds. Dude has talent and he knows cars. He should do a true tradiotional car once in a while though. Just to change it up a bit....either waythe dude is talented. Everythign ive heard from poeple who met him or was around him saiud he was a great guy...fuck it. dude is ok in my book.
For some god awful reason the majority of folks like that 2 tone big wheel crap so hell thats what he is going to build.
I just can't warm up to that big wheel/rubber band tire/donk look. That's about the only thing I don't like about most of the Foose builds.
I have admired Chip Foose's style for a long time. I think the guys is far beyond talented. For sure, some of his stuff isn't what this board is all about, but if you consider the work it is absolutely "craftsmanship" at its best. I can share a brief story about Chip. About six months ago I designed a radical 40 Ford Coupe for a fellow in Kentucky. The client was at a mall where Chip was signing autographs and promoting some of his products. My client introduced himself to Chip and told him that he had the concept drawings in his car and asked if he would like to take a look. After taking a good look at the renderings Chip said that the work was "first rate" and that some of the features were really unique. Some folks who have gained the stature that Chip has likely wouldn't give you the time of day. To actually review another designers work and be complimentary about what he saw confirmed to me that he's exactly what I thought he was; and that's a genuinely good guy. Here are a few pieces from my Foose archive. The 2D piece is the first art that I ever saw of Chip's. I've been a fan since! Traditional? I don't know. Buy I really like it!
In my book he's a first class human being and has a ton of talent. The true measure of a man is when you give him power or put him in the spotlight. So far, he measures up!
I have talked with Chip at SEMA for the past five years. Super down to earth guy. I don't like the rediculous billet wheels, but hey, to each their own. He has to do what his customers and TV sponsors want.
i met him in kc a few yrs ago at world of wheels. i hadnt started on my 57 yet, but he gave me some advice. to do it how i want and make it special to me. then he looked at my dad and said, and you get that dam nomad out. it was funny as hell. almost like my dad had known him for 25yrs. o and by the way. im glad to see that all the bitchn bitches forgot how to post on this thread. thats one of the things i hate about this site. if its got paint, its downgraded, or if its built with common sence and enginering, same thing. well thats bs. take the cobbled ass shit to the local crusher man. its not safe. or neat, its cobbled.
What Foose is 'into' is 'over there'. And what your into is 'over here'. Who drug him in 'here'? The understated shop is cool.
I like Chip and his talent... I couldn't see using his wheels on anything I'd build but but they are perfect for his designs.
