My wife & I have 13 rural acres and we keep the main area well mowed and clear. We have a 4-foot rat snake right there AND an 8-footer on our place (biggest a rat snake gets).

I'd replace any missing rubber plugs in the floor pans, cause that's harder rubber. BUT, besides my old-fashioned mouse traps, LOTs of HAMBers have come up with NEW ways to combat these little shits than I've even THOUGHT of trying!

THANKS for posting the Q, 'cause it takes a lot longer to FIX what they chew up than it takes the little critters to cause the havoc!!!

When I was a kid my neighbor used to take ex-lax and stick it in peanut butter. He would place it around his yard wherever the bastards were causing trouble. We had some of the thinnest squirrels and chipmunks you ever saw.
Not sure what would happen if your dog or a neighbors dog got into the stuff though, could be quite a mess. Maybe the cat works better:D

Man, I hate those little bastards! I live in an old house, and much of the plumbing is that Quest pipe- I've had it chewed through in six places. Of course they've been in my car as well. I have a Ruger 10/22 with an Advanced Armament supressor. I use this in cojunction with subsonic ammo, and it'd quieter than a pellet rifle. Works great to let the air out of 'em, and doesn't disturb the neighbors. I think I might try the bucket trick though, as I get tired of laying in wait for them.

of the little bastards ran out from under the dash one time.I found the nest up under the dash lined with-----dryer sheets!

my huskie must be a direct decedent of yours cause hell grab a bird in the air, squirrels he'll toss around like squeaker toys
if you have squirrels from what i have learned having them in a attic they will not move out for shit even if you catch them transport them 5 miles and let them free they will come back we spray painted one orange and the lil basterd came back twice
so i built them a home at the other end of the yard moved there stuff and they have been there since
oh this is my huskie Blizzard Apache

On a different thread, I believe it was a thread about garage items and garage related incidents being responsible for damage to car bodies and glass, I brought up the issue of squirrels... Yes, squirrels are very clever "problem solving" sort of critters... And if they find a place they feel can make for a successful nesting site, they will make themselves a home-- that's just what they do... They have been known to especially enjoy the shelter and comfort of a car/truck engine compartment-- and they also like to get their teeth into electrical wiring and hoses-- I know this from experience-- They once got into one of my rides... Squirrels (and chipmunks) are usually our friends, they mean no harm, they just try to do what's best for them and their respective families-- That said, we need to keep our garages secure enough to discourage them from finding a way to settle in-- Keep your rides stored in buildings where there aren't holes and entry ways for the critters to easily get in ... Ya know what they say, squirrels and chipmunks don't live on nuts alone-- Good luck to all in keeping their cars, boats and valuables critter free in the future... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Why didn't we think of this. If we all just build nice, buttoned-u grages and keep all our cars & car stuff indoors, the critters wouldn't bother us.

Doc, I love animals as much as you do, so I wanted you to know that I wasn't "making fun." LOTS of us have no other choice than to put oldies outside and cover them up best we can. That's all.

SO, we may joke around about 30.06s and such, but it sure gripes yer butt when you have to splice back in a bunch of wiring or rubber lines!

  15. a snake is natures way to control these little bastards! but i do like torchmans launcher idea.
