Choke cable on a Stromberg 97? How?

Wondering how to put a choke cable on a Stromberg 97 with the little ball end? I read somewhere that someone drilled a hole in the choke arm and pushed the wire through. Seems like this would bend the wire when pushing back out to un-choke.

    Thoughts? Products available?

    Pictures? Links?

    Thanks!

I've used the stock type rod, available from Mac's, on two cars and it works great. Just a hole in the firewall with a rubber grommet is all it takes. I don't know how a cable would work.

Yeah Dirty Dug. That's how I did it with my 4 banger and it worked really well. With the new flatty, and the dash with a spot for the choke cable, I thought it might work out with a dash mounted spot. But now thinking about it, maybe a hidden choke on the firewall behind the dash aint a bad idea. Opens up a spot for something else on the dash.

Any other ideas on the choke cable configuration?

I already have the bracket mounted on the carburetor, and all the vendors sell a bracket, but I don't see anything that puts a ball end on the end of a regular choke cable.

Nothing on the above link that shows that OHV DeLuxe...

This is the choke arm that is attached to the carb...

Bracket that mounts to back of carb (I already have this part)

The choke on my F1 is on the firewall hidden under the dash. It was super easy to make.

But of you had to have a cable I would think a bracket off of one of the carb studs could clamp the cable in place and then just weld a collar with a couple of set screws to the stub cut off of the end of some carb linkage.

I ran a normal choke cable on my old carbs. Made a bracket to hold the cable. Bolted that to the intake. Drilled a hole in the choke arm, ran cable threw hole, bent it slightly down and slipped one of those rings with the set screw from a remote control airplane that hold the wheel/tire to the plane. Damn, thay was long winded.

The last picture you posted there is the same choke lever as used on the stromberg replacement carbs for 1949-53 flathead, which uses the straight naked steel wire. The lever shown there has a swivel with a set screw that dos not require the earlier "cup" for the ball on earlier carbs.
Thought that was what you needed. I beleive 41-48 Ford used a regular wire with the ball type end cup in the carb end, if you like that style instead.

See if I can explain it in words.

You already have the parts but you don't use the ball end on the choke bracket.

Instead you use a little ferrel with a hole and a screw like the one shown on the linkage in the pic.

Your choke cable is in a housing and should not just be a bare cable correct?

The hosing is clamped into the choke bracket that you have.

The knob end is tightend into your dash.

You can add a small diameter spring that just slips over the cable but not the housing. Put the spring between your choke mounting bracket and the little ferrule.

Then put the cable through the hole in the ferrule and tighten the screw.

Because both end of the housing are secured when you pull on the cable it opens the choke and when you push on it it releases.

    Just like an E-brake.

If the cable is stiff enough you can lose the spring.

^^ This is a good idea!!

I temporarily rigged up the hard throttle/choke rod with the 90 degree bend in the end, but it's really short (was going to weld more rod on to make it easier to reach), but this is a great idea to make the cable work

    Thanks!

A couple of cable brackets and choke cable adaptors I've whittled out of stainless, aluminum, and brass in my spare time.
