I need to buy 3 choke type cables for a backup electric trunk release and backup shaved electric door release. They need to be at least 6 feet long and have a braided, not solid wire center. The solid wire center ones are not flexible enough for what I need. So far most of the ads do not specify if the center is braided or solid wire. Has anyone found a source for these, that will not brake the bank?
Hood or trunk release cables are almost always braided. You might try looking at those rather than at choke cables.
THIS ! I did this a few times over the years for different things . Custom lengths , braided and nylon casing super flexible .
If you want a choke type cable because it has a knob and mounting threads you can remove the inner solid core and replace it with 1/16” wire rope. I have done this many times for use in microcars. Just solder the ends of the cable to the choke knob shaft and use a crimp on the end where it meets the trunk latch.
If you are going to use it as a backup for the doors, (mounted through the firewall , along the door hinge, into the door and to the latch) I would recommend a hood release cable. Just go to the junkyard and get one
I've had great success at a local (to me!) control cable suppliers / makers. Incredibly inexpensive too! Chris
If it was summer I would be at my local junk yard. But sadly it's winter and at the moment -4 degrees. So I need to order a cable from somewhere.
I use these guys for every cable I need. Their products are top shelf and slick as snot on a doorknob. https://www.controlcables.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopxR72_rnc9sXczN_hjGVhLSf63TZzBggGh1G5YbAxDyBvlj7qp
