Model A axle is 2-1/4" thick at the perch bosses, and a '32-'36 is 2" thick, so different wishbones or hairpins/batwings are needed. I think I'm right in saying that aftermarket stuff is usally 2-1/4"?

I have a Model A axle that I picked up over here that I'm pretty sure was dropped by Joes Speed Shop and it is very nice. I have a '32 one coming from 296V8, and although the boat hasn't landed yet I'm expecting to be pleased with that too!

I started a similar thread a while ago, looking for an American made axle, and am very happy with my 4" dropped genuine Ford axle from Greg at Anson. Had it chromed and mix and matched stuff from ebay and the HAMB, and ended up with a fully chromed front end with chrome backing plates for less than any 1-800 front end.

See...that's what I want to hear! I'm working with Dirtiest Devil here in NJ to get a parts pile together for my A. I just bought an A frame from him yesterday, but it's staying at his shop until we get it set up. We were talking front end parts yesterday, and I think that he might be able to pull off the same deal with me, too. If we can get a complete front setup together from what he's got, then I'll send off the axle to Greg. Otherwise, I'll just get a dropped axle from Greg and mate it with whatever DD can drum up.

Sounds Like you've got an awsome plan together. From what I've seen here on the hamb Dirtiestdevil does awsome work. I think you'll be much happier in the long run with your decision to keep an OG front end under it.

There is no way that a cast iron axle can be safe- even with traceable part numbers, accredited QC program, neither of which Magnum has. Henry Ford was right to use Forged steel. If you do have a Cast axle (even if you think it is Nodular Iron, S**** IT NOW.

I'm using a CE 4" dropped heavy '32 under my 31. The stock spring and perch bolts fit perfectly. I picked it up from my buddy in IA. it was a second, had a ding in the lower flange so I put a matching ding on the other side. I'm using 41 spindles and brakes on it.
