I tilted the posts back, took the elbow rest area from a junk door to run the beads out to the jams, but the door top was much taller than the quarter's top, the panel above the deck has very little ****pit combing, i used some 5 quarters plastic decking, i let it sag in the sun to get the upward curl, traced the top of the combing, cut it out, transfered it to the decking, cut it with a sabersaw, some decking has sawdust added, you can sand those, the countersunk screws easily pulled the decking down onto the combing... looked more roadsteresque.
Its not rat until it is rolling at the very least or running all cobbled together. What you have in this pic is a rough body. What it becomes is up to you or whomever builds it. In reality if you built it and the body remained rough as long as it was not cobbled together with whatever piece of wire, 200 MPH tape and added on googah it would be a beater or a jalopy. Beater to be because of the era that I began building but jalopy if you stay true to the focus to the board. From the looks of the current paint, unless it is just bad paint and not a pitted rough body under it to make it into a smooth hot rod is going to be work. it can be done but lots of work to make it happen. I would be happy myself to clean up the welds and throw the m smoothest paint job possible with out going to the extreme of making it into a smooth driver or show quality rod. but I am lazy when it comes to that part of the build some of the people that we know are not. So fast jalopy is good for me, the next guy can goo all elbows and ***holes on it. Somehow we need to learn that there is a distinction between a rat rod and a jalopy (beater). Maybe I'll start a thread on it for the new regime to look at and discuss. @sloppy jalopies I am going to use your two examples in my thread, if you find this unacceptable drop me a PM and I will delete and go looking for something else. Fair enough?
That blue one looks like a lot better starting point than my 31 Victoria body I have sitting out here in the driveway. It looks like applied time and effort could make it into a pretty nice hot rod.
LOL I don't even dare post my sedan, if that blue one is rat what can I call my POS? @Mr48chev help me out here what do you think drives us to rescue the mots rotted out piece of what was once a car? Is it insanity or?????
You absolutely can not please everyone, so why not please yourself! My avatar runs the gamut on this site. Some really like it and some really hate it, even going so far as calling it a POS junkyard rust bucket. That being said...ask your questions, weed out the replies that dont apply and dont worry about it. Believe me, no matter what you do, original/modified...OHV/flathead/banger...wire/steel wheels...automatic/standard...$25g paint/rattlecan/patina...east coast/west coast...redhead/blond/brunette...tats/no tats...implants/naturals...some will hate it, some will like it....as long as YOU fall into the "like" catagory when your done, your golden. Just give it the best you can with whatever resources you have. It dont have to be high dollar to be cool!
I get pinched nerves in my neck getting in and out of my channeled and sectioned 10", '33 when my back is "out", so i am swapping a '30 model A coupe body with tudor doors [helps fit the wheel base], bad back won't get better with time, '33 and '30 pix... should give me a little headroom...
