chop top

    yo guys i have a 48 chevy truck and i would like 2 chop it but i have never done it would like some input 1) should i pull the piller back and lay the roof back on or 2) cut side 2 side and add metal
    i do not want 2 &*^% it up .any info would be great

    I think they LOOK better when you use a extra top and add pieces. I also think they look better with only a inch or so removed from the rear window ...

    if you can find a nother top you can but the back half of the top to the back after cutting it the measure from the top front piller to the old top and cut the donor top back farther and cut and weld it on and you do not need to put a peice 2 inch or what ever it works out to be all the way across , you will have just one seam across

    Hey johnnyv,

    Another route you can take requires no doner roof......

    The center of the roof panel together with its' stock crown is cut
    away prior to any of the posts being cut. This method keeps your
    welds pretty much out of the center of the roof panel where they
    would otherwise be a real ***** to weld and hammer weld. Filler
    pieces of metal are cut and shaped to fill in the crown and shape,
    after each of the posts is chopped and welded into place. @ 2''-3''
    these look really good, but once you go much lower, these really
    start to look kinda chubby around the middle, unless a section job
    is in the plan.
