I need help figuring out how to install a headliner in my chopped 1950 Merc. I'm sure most of us out there are guilty as I am. I tore my Merc apart about 8 years ago, took no pictures and now I have no idea of how the headliner goes back in. I did not mark the bows so I have no idea which one goes in what spot, ok I figured out the location of the one with the light in it. Not that it matters that much because nothing fits after chopping the top. I figured out that the windlace goes in first, held in place by the evil spikes in the body that I've stabbed my head on a thousand times, or tacked on to the tack strips. Then the less evil sheet metal parts get screwed in place. The headliner gets tucked in under the sheet metal and this holds the headliner in place.
Question: From the old shredded headliner remains I can tell that some of the windlace was sewn to the headliner. It looks like this was done along the a pillar? Is this correct? Any other places that need to be sewn to the windlace? I know I should wait for a hot day to do the install and that I should use a heat gun to stretch the vinyl. Am I missing anything else?
