    Hey, Raleigh area HAMB'ers'

I'm not sure, but I get the impression that half of you guys haven't met each other. Would anybody be up for meeting for lunch at one of the area's barbeque resturaunts on the Saturday after Christmas? I will be up there for about a week over the holiday, and would be happy to help get something together.

Maybe we could get Zman to arrange a walking tour of this tin stash that he's found, if the weather will cooperate, and then eat after?

Anyhow, let me know what ya'll think. Later, Kinky6 [IMG]

ah...that would be awesome, but I dunno if I could pull it off since my sister is coming up to visit from florida right after Christmas. If you guys make some plans though I'll see if I can get up that way.

Damn, I would come up but will be down in FL on that Sat... But the Carolina (and surrounding states) HAMBers do need to find an excuse to get together before summer hits...

Green's Garner Grill? If they're still in business, its on the old Raleigh highway; the one that US 70 bypassed. I'll have to call around and see who's open on that Saturday.

I was talking to a buddy the other day who lives in upstate NY, but grew up in Chatham Co. He is sure that New Yorkers, despite their many fine attributes, do not know a damn thing about cooked pig, as in Carolina BBQ. He was down for a trade show last year, and took a ride over to Allen's & Sons, right near the Haw river, north of Pittsboro. He said that place hadn't changed in 20 years. This just reminded me of how long its been since I've been in a decent eastern-style BBQ joint.

Mmmmm - chopped HAMB, pass th' vinegar sauce!

  10. Yeah, we do a neighborhood pig-pickin' here every year, and I've done the cooking about 4 years, now...fresh hickory, burn it down to coals starting about 4:30~5:00 am, throw on the pig about 8, cook it till 2...a neighbor has a hot vinegar-based sauce that is HAPPENIN'!!! Although, I sometimes miss Alabama-style tomato-based...

Where abouts is Green's Garner Grill? There's only two restaurants I know of on Old 70, if we're talking about the same road (parallel to 70 from Raleigh to Clayton) the 'Toot-n-Tell', and there's one other one I don't remember the name...

I don't know if it's Green's, but there is a Garner Grill on Old Garner Rd. Just down from the Toot-n-Tell, that's pretty good. There's also the Oak City Diner, they move in to where Gypsy's Shiny Diner was in Tryon Hills. Best food in a shiny in a long time. Or there's always Watkin's Grill if you don't mind confederate memorabilia on the walls.

Well, how about we meet this Saturday, 27th, at the Toot-n-tell in Garner, say about 12:00, and then get a table about 12:30, after the rush dies down. It would be very easy to get to from US 70 and I-40. Take US 70 to Garner, exit onto NC 50/ Benson Hwy. Go north, until it deadends into downtown Garner, right across the railroad tracks. 943 W. Garner Rd.

Cooper's in downtown Raleigh, or Murray's, out on Old Poole Rd. are good also, but the directions may not be as easy to follow.

Anyhow, let me know what ya'll think. Kinky6.

    Sounds like FUN........

I may make it. I have to go to Greenville SC today (Wednesday) and get my Dad. I am taking him to see " His Honey " near Raliegh NC. Then back home for Christmas with my honey (wife)........about 400 miles round trip. If I do not have to go back on Saturday to get him .....most likely I will be there........

I sure HOPE I can still have a Honey when I am 82 like my Dad ..... [IMG] [IMG]

  27. I'm in! High noon the 27th at the Toot-n-Tell...I'll be the bald guy in a beat up purple S-10 pickup...I'll wear my HAMB shirt, if it's clean!!!

Sorry about not answering sooner...I've been out of town till Christmas Eve, then I left the computer alone to enjoy the family time!!!

    Who else is coming?

I'll drive my '59 pickup, metallic blue and black (por 15 and DP90). Wearing a Rod-O-Rama jacket.

  29. Just a few of us made it...I enjoyed meeting Zman and Kinky6. Kinky6 knows way much about inliners, and scored some nice windshield mounts, and Z has a happenin' shop. Z also showed us his Chevy truck with like-new chrome, his buddy's hearse, a '57 Buick that don't need much to be on the hoof and lookin' smooth, and a nailhead with a whole buncha fins...clean!!!

Thanks for the company, guys, it's good to talk old car stuff with somebody who appreciates'em...gets me motivated to get on mine like I ought to!

Scott...how would it work for me to just bring up my bumpers to compare to yours? If they're close enough I can modify brackets, we can do a deal!!! Let me know if that'd be good for you, and when (weekends are better for me, 'cause of work)!

    Thanks,
    Steve
