49-52's are my favorite car. I've had a couple,, including a pretty nice 4 door. rare has nothing to do with it. just hate seeing them ruined that's all.

  4. It's not like it's a Duesenberg. We scrapped a '49 tudor last summer after parting it out. I passed up a bunch of others, for other cars, when I was buying in quantity.

I appreciate all the work it took to do this without a doubt, that being said I don't think the proportions work with it soooo wide and long.
These cars have such good proportions and lines stock that to see one changed so radically does not work for me personally. Hell of a job anyway.

Nice Job! It looks good, forget the haters and drive the shit out of it!

  8. What has me baffled is that the HAMB has some of the finest metal shapers and fabricators in the world, and yet people keep jocking this car and burying good threads! Proportions and style aside,,,,because those are subjective,,,the facts are, this car will NEVER have glass, the hood and decklid don't close, and the panels don't fit and can't be planished. If it EVER sees shiny paint, I'll be impressed....although, it's gonna take some serious $$ to buy all that bondo.

Southpark....you said yourself it's borderline rat rod. Sorry, I gotta agree. It's definitely not traditional....

or if i ruined a great car.
or im a douche bag for having a lexan windshield.

its a fucking blast to drive!

the caprice setup is awesome, real smooth riding.
    stops, turns and drives great.

  12. Mate, I've just got to congratulate you on keeping your cool when there's a half dozen here trying to rile you! You've got more patience than me.

What's the plan for the fleetline?

  13. I often wonder if back in the '50s when some of our legends were starting out if some guy in an original track T or '40s era custom '36 was telling them they had it all wrong and weren't traditional.. some one ask Winfield for some stories I'll bet he has aton...

I know paint it black suede, red wheels, wide whites, mexican blanket seat cover, maybe a skull or two, then they'll love it... or u can just drive it and drive it., and drive it..

It definitely isn't traditional, but that certainly doesn't mean it's not a cool ride. That thing kicks ass and I know you have a blast driving it!

Don't mind the haters, they mean well... well, most of 'em.

And you can take a lot of pride in the fact that you did all that on your own. You've got skills.

  16. The idea is good but I think more time could have been spent on the fitment of the panels, just looks like you got in a hurry to me? the roof dips real bad its looks like it would hold water and the front fenders dont look right. You sould have cut the front of the chassis off and kept the fenders short. I now how much work something like that is but you should have planned the reassembly better is all.

  18. Not really my taste, but it could be the grill that throws it off for me. I have to appreciate the work that went into it, drive the wheels off it.

Can you stamp your feet and cry when you say it?

I wonder if every OLD MAN used the phrase "fucked up" or "ruined" when he saw his first gasser?

Dude that's cool that you built that and I'm not here to hate, but clearly the roof is dipped in the middle. Now go back and fix all that stuff and make it respectable. You know what looks right and what doesn't, don't half-ass your build.

Ok this pissed me off, what you got is more balls than brains. Nothing on the car was done using proper methods. Stubborness and a welder do not add up to skills.

However, if you learned enough to not screw the next ones up as bad as this one, then its forgivable.

If you wanted something ugly that ran and drove like a caprice why not drive the caprice?

Again, forget the haters...maybe it's my eyesight but it doesn't look bad to me.

  22. Proper? I'm unclear on the judging criteria? Are you part of the group sitting in their lawn chairs as the parade goes by...

Proper - compared to.... A Roth? Norm Grabowski's truck? Model A coupe, suicide front end, no front brakes running spindle mounted 45 year old magnesium rims?

I think by proper he means lining up the body panels before welding. Is that too much to ask?

No, not in a lawn chair, my stuff is usually in the parade, while I'm back in the shop.

As to proper methods, the panels used to lengthen the fenders are not curved to match the contour of the fender, in fact none of the patches were contour matched. The windshield opening was not braced so it sagged in the middle. He is using a lexan windowshield and there isnt a way to put a glass one in its place.

It takes skill to make a curved panel to match the area its going in, no skill is needed to hack off a chunk and weld a flat panel in the hole.

I find it unfathomable that some of you are defending this abortion, its not a traditional build, its not a quality build, and there will be more bondo in one fender than was used in my last 3 projects.

You can say whatever you lke about the thing, just please dont say it took skill to build it, cause it didnt.

  25. Well said Tinman!

  26. Well I probaly couldn't do half of what Southpark did on his car...I give him credit for having a vision and following it through!!

...But Tinman's comments do have some truth and weight.

But I still look forward to more pics and info of this car in the future.

just because you can doesn't mean you should, now you did and that should the point. your freedom to do what ever you want also comes with my freedom of opinion.

Well everybody gots opinions and theys like armpits and assholes. They can stink...

Who gives a rats ass what this guy did. It was his. He did what he wanted. Never said it was going to be a concourse show car. And did any of the downers step up and say, "Hey, you know, it would look better if we did this." Then get in the truck drive to his house, pay for shit and help? No?

Then who gives a shit what they have to say. If no money time effort or help of any kind was not given or offered, then STFU. Okay he did it wrong here or there. So.. You never did?

Southpark drive that fucker to the HAMB drags and I betcha no matter what shape its in it'll draw more attention than some same old same old car of any type. Lettem bitch.

When we see em do better then...

    That's my opinion..

Thank You very much Tinman. I know in thick concrete they use re-bar, what do you use in filler? Keep up the good work, this is what hot rodding's about.

  30. Hey Mate,

    Dont listen to the haters!

I like it and yet I'd rather chop my balls of then read Old Skool Rodzzzz and hate rat rods.

If the metal work isnt perfect, who cares, good try! It looks like fun, I dig the ribbed inserts and compared to MY level of talent, took alot of skill to do.
