I'm in the process of removing the glued in windshield from my 1932 ford 5 window. I want to make it swing out like it should.

The car has been previously chopped 4". The hinges are still present in the header .

I bought a new frame from speedway and would appreciate any advise and pictures on how to do this.

    Thanks, Dave

    Carefully,measure twice,cut once.

  3. Ford frames are tapered so you will need to spread it a bit. Make sure your angle is right

I used a Speedway frame for my 32-5w which is a gl*** body with 3" chop. I cut 3" off both the vertical legs at the same angle as the legs then found due to the taper that when you put it all together the top rail bows. Had to reshape the top rail then pilot drill, countersink and counterbore the vertical legs to match the corner brackets.

Put it all together and it fitted the opening perfectly UNTIL I fitted the sealing rubber! Had to chop it a further 3/8" both sides and retap the corner brackets to match the screw holes in the vertical legs.

I got it spray chromed cos I'd heard from various folk how chroming chemicals rust frames from the inside out. Looks OK, not as good as the real thing but no one has picked it not being real chrome.

Others I've spoken to since have just cut their required amout out of the middle of the vertical legs and welded them back up. I looked at this option but felt that you could only weld the front and back faces of the section satisfactorily and not down in the channels bits.
