I am planning to channel a Model A body 4". So I would want to also channel the radiator shell 4". Would I say cut 1" out of the shell at 4 different locations from top to bottom, vs cutting out 4" all in one place. My thinking is that less distortion would occur by cutting 1" sections. Am I thinking correctly?

I'd make one cut not 4. you might have to narrow the bottom part to fit back in with the top cause it is narrower at the top if I remember right?

    depending on your setup ....

I like to cut the sides up a little higher and keep the full size grill shell, that allows the lower part of the grill to go closer to the ground. My car is channeled and the frame is Z'd in the front but I run a stock grill. The top of the grill is still at the correct height to the cowl.

I cut about 3" in middle of sides and mig welded, then welded up a few weld pinholes. No problem.
