Hello, I have a chance to buy a 2" chopped chrome '32 roadster w/s frame unseen for a good price. I want to chop it another inch. Can this be done without messing up the chrome? I don't have one to look at to see how they go together. Thanks.

Another inch should not be a problem as your new corner bracket screw holes should fall between the existing holes. You might want to weigh the cost, compared to a new 3 inch chopped windshield and the possibility of damaging the chrome or having a problem getting the angle cut just right so there are no gaps.

With a one inch chop, the pivot hole on the side will show. I bought a stock height one from Speedway and chopped it the three inches. You have to cut the top and the sides as the sides taper. I filed the last bit so not to peel the chrome. I put chrome paint on the edges and it is fine.

Anytime you start cutting on a piece that has been chrome plated it will start to flake where the initial cut is made,,just try to be happy with a 2" chop. HRP

Just curious: are they chrome plated steel or are they stainless. Its only been 26 years since I did one and can't remember.

The frame is steel, the stanchions are stainless. I have never cut a chromed piece of steel without getting at least a little peel at the cut. How picky are you?

Thanks for the quick replies. Not sure what to do at this point.

I have always bought an unchromed windshield frame and chopped it before plating. You will also need to chop the upper stanchions the appropriate amount which would require welding the stainless on a jig to insure that the centers and angle is correct. Would be a challenge to cut the frame without affecting the chrome.

If your budget is tight, save some more money and buy the 3" model. I have cut many of them and always regretted it.
