Anybody chopped their own windscreens? I've got access to plenty of old laminated screens and wanted to give it a go, anybody tell me what's invovled? can't be that difficult surely (famous last words ).
With untempered laminated, after you score it with the gl*** cutter, pour lighter fluid along the crack and light it. Wait only a second or two, the heat will melt the plastic and you can separate just like you were cutting a single sheet.
never done it myself, but I've watched other guys do it. you have to score both sides, break the gl***, and then you can do the lighterfluid trick.
The heat softens the plastic so when you break the score it will separate. Crack it before or after the lighter fluid drill, works either way. Just do it.
Scoring it doesn't get ya to the laminate...so does the heat from the lighter fluid crack the gl*** along the score line or what?[/QUOTE] I actually use the gl*** cutter, You ever wonder what the little ball on the other end of the gl*** cutter is? Well it is for tapping on the gl*** to make the score turn into a crack. I tap along the score line and watch the score turn into a crack through the thickness of the gl***. then flip and repeat. I just use a torch for melting the laminate layer. I used to work in a gl*** shop and this was the way everyone of us did it. not very hard, so don't be afraid to try.
