I have decided to put my `32 steering box on top of the rails ( straight above stock location ) I have already figgered out what the mount should look like & how to make it , but if a Chris Craft steeringbox-mount could do the job , then I could save a lot of time ( Unless thay are HARD to find ? ) Was hoping that there was atleast one of you that might have a close-up pic of the mentioned gadget in your files ... KLAZ BTW ... The pic shows what might be a Chris Craft mount , but I`m not sure
Forgot to tell you : I have to relocate the s-box to clear the manifold , AND, the mount must be of a design that makes it possible to adjust the steering-box in place .... Klaz
The Chris Craft s-box is not an option , I was only thinking about using the box-mount . Anyway ... Thanx ... Klaz
Klaz...I'm not sure but that looks like the 39 Chevy truck box that I used for cowl steering in my coupe. Maybe it is and that is the mount from the truck. Clark
I have a couple Chris Craft boxes but no pics. But....that is basically how they are shaped. I believe the CC box is held tight to the mount by a horizontal bolt into a boss on the box, parallel to the sector. My bro made his own similar mount for a F-100 box to use in his Model A. He turned the sector housing area down on a lathe and made a sleeve to go around it. Welded an angle bracket to the bottom of the sleeve and viola! I think his is adjustable and held tight by a set screw through the sleeve to the housing. By making your own you don't have to worry about the CC bracket angle matching the frame's angle. On a side note, I have wondered if a CC box can be "reversed" to hang the pitman arm down by using '48 Ford internals? Anybody ever tried this?
Thanx for your replies I have decided to go ahead with the " make my own "-plan ..... Allways fun making stuff , right .. Alchemy : the mount your Bro made sounds to be more/less what I had in mind ! Klaz
