I know you guys are decorating your garages and shops for the Holidays. Lets see em ! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to All Oldmics
Hello, The “shop” (garage) is a hive of activity during Christmas Vacation. It is a place to hide stuff from prying eyes until the big wrapping days. When a new present comes to the door or is in a bag from our local small business shops, they blend well with the myriad of boxes in cabinets and drawers. Hiding has gotten to be a sport around here. If it is in the garage, no one but me, looks around…except in the garden tools and “stuff” cabinets, only. The hidden items blend so well that I have lost one item from last Christmas that I cannot find. It was small, but was in its own box within a larger, small box. Somehow, it got lost and is still a mystery. The boxes all look alike after a while. It probably got recycled last year in the New Year's purge. Anyway, this year, after reading a story on Moon Discs and my college experience in trying to make some smaller versions, I needed some, for a project I am doing to several of the little guys in the model drawer. The main item needed was a set of miniature 1/64 size Moon Discs. So I decided to hunt for regular household items that could work with minimal tooling. I found a bag of cabinet, shelf adjustment, hole covers that were close, but not quite 1/64 scale. Unmodified, they could work on a 1/43 or even a 1/32 scale. Those were too big for our little 1/64 guys. Jnaki Everyone has access to cabinets and cabinet parts. These just happen to be in a drawer marked "plugs for cabinets." Some cabinets are made with a formaldehyde and the odor is there. These plugs help keep that smell in check and the allergies away. If the wood does not have formaldehyde, then it covers the screws that hold the cabinet together. “Formaldehyde is a colorless, strong-smelling gas used in making building materials and many household products. It is used in pressed-wood products, such as particleboard, plywood, and fiberboard; glues and adhesives; permanent-press fabrics; paper product coatings; and certain insulation materials.” Kitchen Cabinet screw hole covers: But, my cordless drill was perfect for a miniature lathe and all it took was careful filing and sanding to create a set of miniature discs. If the drill spins too fast, and/or there is too much pressure on the file or sandpaper, it created a melted plastic piece.(left) If the messed up ones are not too out of shape, they can be ground down to make smaller sizes or shaped to fit different rims. If the plastic caps edges get too thin and tear, the same story here...re-shape to get a different rim size. If you punch holes in the cardboard spray booth... those little guys stay still, the whole time. Future projects: 1/64 scale During a break on Christmas Eve, present wrapping time, a soft Christmas light gave a good photographic glow to the surroundings and paint.
Wifes gift to me & yes she did it all by herself I kept my mouth shut for a change. She met with the contractor & planned the whole shebang. Had to do some really good planning to get it to fit the remaining side yard. Has a split heat & ac unit ,TV ,fan & some working space it is 20WX24 deep. Plenty room for the 34 & 32.
