OK.. whose decorating their shop for Christmas? Be honest. I think my wife gets upset with me because I take more time setting up the lights and tree in the shop than I do the home. Hey, why not..? I spend most of my time out there after all... ha!

I'll put up the ol' tree, lights and buy myself a Christmas present.. I'll FILL my beer fridge. Merry Happy... Happy Merry.. Fa la laaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

  2. Bah humbug.

Put some whiskey on the shelf, buy me a present and get your ass back to work. :D

At least mix in a little nog with that whisky mister!

  4. OK I'm down with that.

It'll take me a bit to get over but the kid will be by today for my gift and a sip. :)

I worked in a shop in the later '70s for awhile that the christmas lights never came down. So I guess its not too early.

But remember the missus has half the money and all that other stuff. Maybe you should help her get the tree and stuff sorted out at home while you are at it.

    I'm just sayin'. ;)

She wants to help put stuff up tomorrow. Since I'm home alone tonight.. The boy and the wife are both gone (ahhhh).. I'll work on the shop stuff. Tomorrow I'll "assist" with the home decor.

Got to admit I wasn't quite ready for it, but the wife and boy are and we watched one of the Christmas videos last night.. I guess I'm starting to come around.

What is the best alcohol for nog anyway? rum?

Oh, hell no! In fact I'm waiting for a local radio station (WNIC 100.3 FM) here in Detroit to start off the holliday season with round the clock Christmas classics... They're running a little late this year... Me and the ol' lady will be setting up the tree this weekend... I can't wait! :)

My deal with wifey is I take care of outside decoration and lights, she does the inside.
My daughter and I go pick and cut a fresh tree from our favorite christmas tree farm, usually a "Charlie Brown" style tree that no body wants. When the girls finish dressing the tree it always looks great.

Never thought about putting christmas stuff up in the shop, might have to do that this year. Might be a nice touch for the holiday season wobbly pop stops.

Fridge is always stocked for any H.A.M.B.er's in the area.

  9. We prefer rum in ours but a lot of folks use brandy. If you make it to my place for the holidays expect rum and a grin.

  10. I worked in a big machine shop and they had a fake tree in the office area. One year we decorated it with stringy lathe chips, aluminum and stainless steel. All was fine until someone touched one and got a helluva cut on their finger. From then on, the chips were to go in the waste barrels, no exceptions!

Think I'm stopping by the liquor store tonight for a little rum too... OK.. now I'm starting to get in the spirit of things!

There you go!!!!!! That's the spirit! :D :) I prefer HO scale myself... Aurora and A/FX pancake cars.... They're the best! :)

  16. A slot car track around the tree is a great idea! Might have to break mine out and try it. Not sure if the Wife would buy it, (in fact I know she wont!) but my two little boys will love it! I wonder if I can rig up a train transformer so the cars will run at a steady speed? (the boys are still too young to run the controllers)

Get a plastic tree and just leave it up all year around. The joy of Chrismas will be with you forever.

Our tradition is putting the tree up after Thanksgiving dinner. Lights outside are up but wont be turned on until that night also. We might have to start a new tradition with the slot cars around the bottom though. That would be awesome

Yeah...I agree. My childhood friend lived with his grandparents, around the corner. His grandmother always had a tree that was too tall for the room, and rather than cut the top off (or the bottom) the ornament on top was bent over, pushing up the ceiling. (I hated it, but in later years realized it "showed class"!)

She would get the tree 3 weeks before Christmas, and a whole week was dedicated to the placement of the floor diorama, which took up the entire frontage of the living room!
The Lionel train had a total of 44 feet of track, and there were scale cars and trucks, and skaters and sleds, and carolers and even some bums, what a sight! Buildings, and streets, parks, and a frozen brook, with a bridge over it. It was a loosely-based dio of Bedford Falls, I never knew that until we started our tradition of watching "It's a Wonderful Life" every year.

So, my wife and I started collecting stuff to add to our under-the-tree display 25 years ago.
Ours is in H-O scale, but older cars are hard to find...We get all we can, adding to the collection constantly. But now, Annie, our year-and-a-half old Chocolate Lab, is still too curious, so we have to wait 'til next year to put up the little town.
