I just submitted a question asking cast vs. forged and country of origin. (If these look good, I'd be interested I replacing my after market tube axle.)

  6. Very interesting.

  7. They are kind of wide for the older cars.

  8. no mention of perch boss size of either 2" or 2-/4" , also no mention of perch centers width. says axle is for `37-`41....which is 38-1/2"

That sure looks like a So-Cal axle. The goofy way the I-beam meets the spring perch with the radius...almost like it was ball milled. And then there's the "bump" on the front and back of the axle where the perch goes through it. Those are both traits of So-Cal axles, and the main reasons I won't use one. If in fact they are So-Cal axles, they are forged, but are also Chinese.

I'd think the real concerns would be about hydrogen embridlement from the chroming process. That's the reason NHRA has banned chroming of roll bars/cages. At one time, every top fuel dragster had a chrome roll cage; not anymore. Throw made offshore into the mix, along with the chroming, would be my concerns. If anyone has actual experience with the vendor/product.................... Butch/56sedandelivery.

  14. The chrome looks very strange, almost like it's done on pot metal. Maybe it's just the photo been retouched. Maybe not.

Given that originals are still available at a good price I just wouldn't bother. If you have an original chromed it can then be heat treated to avoid embrittlement.

  15. Where do you guys come from ?
The stock Henry axle that came under every single one of the 37-41 fords is 48-1/2". According to you guys the only axle that fits under the older cars is an aftermarket?

    37-41 Stock axle

48-1/2" Kingpin Center to Center (top)
38-1/2" Spring perch Center to Center
    2-1/4 Spring Perch Boss
    2-1/8" Factory drop
    .8125 Kingpin dia.

  16. Sure looks like a SoCal

  18. You get what you pay for, simple enough! When enough brick and mortar shops close you will need to learn Mandlin for your tech questions.....Cheap f*@k! $300.oo bucks for a chrome axle, is it USA! HA! I have a budget as well but is common sense not so common? I challenge you to look at this from a "price matching" perspective as Wally World does, just make more cheap sh!t and the competior will go out and then raise the price on the sub level product!

Off my soap box...good day! :D

  19. That is a solid business plan for huge companies with pockets big enough to sustain the loss.

I'd rather have a painted axle than to trust anything from overseas.

  21. They replied that they are high quality USA made but no other info.

  22. have we determined if they are cast or forged?

  23. Still waiting for that info.

  24. If you re-read what I posted, I said its too wide for "older cars", like pre 35. I have a 48 inch wide under my 32 and its too wide. I have a 46 inch axle that I am going to put under it instead so that I can put some different wheels on it. My 34 has a 46 inch wide axle under it and it fits perfectly. I guess if you don't want to run front fenders then the width doesn't matter that much to you.

This item is a red flag item, first who are these vendors, they list no physical address so if you have an issue who do you contact. They have a number of negative feedbacks so even though they sold a bunch of parts they have too may problems, another red flag. This is the same thing that your mother told you if it is too good to be true it is. Purchase your parts from a company that sells hot rod parts dont shop for the cheapest prices, If you are sick you dont look for the cheapest doctor so the same follows when you are purchasing parts for your car. Purchase from someone that knows and backs up what they sell.

  26. I understand perfectly what you said the first time and the second but I don't think you understand what you are saying.

46" is aftermarket only. Or you sectioned a Henry down to 46" and that's the only two ways you get a 46" axle.
You are still saying that a Henry axle is too wide for his own cars and that one 3" shorter already is to wide.

    28-31 is 50-1/2"
    32 is 50-1/2
    33-36 is 50-1/2
    37-41 including v8 60 tube is 48-1/2
    War years
    46-48 is 50-3/4"

Oh I know - older cars right.
    1909-1927 is 52"

  27. Got ya. OK, for my use, a 46" fits perfect with my brake/wheel setup. Anything wider is causing my tires to hit the fenders when turning, so yes, aftermarket width fits better in my opinion if you want to have wheels, tires, brakes that fit nicely under the fenders on early models.

I just got my reply from the eBay seller :

    "High quality.Don't worry about it"

Cut and paste from the email they sent, bad spacing, punctuation and all. Hardly confidence inspiring.

  29. Well, that makes me feel a whole lot better about it! :D

  30. Haha!
