Featured Technical CHROME PLATING AN OIL PAN

There's always hope and you know what they say, "Chrome is where the heart is"!

No full flow system on mine. In fact, no filter on mine. I was thinking about changing that but he options are not good looking. The new Bee Hive units look less than acceptable and I do not want to hang one form the head. Anyone have a cool old school Offy unit to sell?

 

SHHHH, Me to. They don't like us "C" word people, but I'm looking in the southeast areas.

I've used them in the past.......I think it's Orange County powder coating now.

 

Very entertaining thread and outstanding work. It made my morning coffee better.

 

So the repair held just fine overnight. The fix was to put a drill through the pin hole leak, open it up, find a lot of clean metal and stich it back up. A little sanding and polishing and you can't tell anything happened.

The leak was in a strange place under one of the front windage tray flanges. There was some rust in the pan right there but not too deep. It could have been leaking for ages or had enough sludge inside and paint outside that it went un-noticed.

There is one more possible cause, but I hesitate to mention it as it is rather unlikely. I did blow the tray out of the pan with my plasma cutter. And that area is rather tight to the "nose" of the pan right there.

Okay, fine! I did it. I MIG'd up the hole that I burned through with the torch, but I got a bit of porosity in the weld exactly where it started leaking. I should have started with the drill bit idea and cleaned it up the first time, but I wanted the error fixed before anyone saw the error of my ways. I don't even like looking at my errors when I'm alone in the shop.
