chrome powdercoating?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by MERRELL, Jul 27, 2010.

  1. As I said earlier, the chrome powder isn't as durable and with the brake dust and elements it just doesnt stand up. We haven't had good luck with rims lasting very long. I dont know about you guys but my rims on my rides always get full of **** and other road debris and with that chrome powder that we use you can only use certain cleaners and waxes to clean them or they will stain. We have done some bike jugs and heads with the stuff and it's surprising that they been holding up! Lot of heat by the exhaust area and no bubbling up or discoloring!

  2. Anyone in arizona doing this,I'd like to do some stuff under the 56 with it (axle,9inch etc.)

  3. I would stay away from the chrome powder on suspension parts (my opinion) If you have them done in chrome powder you need to be very careful when you ***emble them. Yes powder coat is super durable but if you chip or mar a spot you can't touch it up! With any of your standard colors like black its easy to touch up. We have an additive that we use that mixes with the powder to touch up chips and s****es but it doesnt work very good with chromes and metallic's.

  4. makes sense,I had Russ Meeks do a cerramaic[sp] coated nine inch and he had a process that made it look like chrome,it held up great and was bullet proof...not sure what the difference is

  7. Abomination, yep those are the guy's! You can't view their colors unless you get set up as a dealer/dist. Their color samples on the net **** though, we ordered about 1/2 of the actual color chips they have and they are actual powdered pieces of metal, not photos. They have over 2500 colors available and their prices are decent! They also custom match colors if you want a powdered piece to match something else. We did some heads, manifold, oil pan, valve covers for a guy's Buick a few months ago, they needed to be close to the original Buick red, we found a sample from NIC that was dead on to the color without having it custom mixed!

Me too. You could run into problems with fake hydrogen embrittlement with fake chrome.

That was some funny **** right there. :D

I had to learn the hard way. Had some wheels done by a shop that has since shut down. Less than 2 years and about 1K miles later the clear coat has started to crack and flake off.

If you want chrome, then get it chromed. If you want a durable, nice bright silver finish, get it ceramic coated. Keep either finish clean and it will last a long time.

i like the chrome powdercoat look, your not going to fool anyone into thinking its chrome, but for the valve covers on my desoto hemi it might be a nice look, red lettering, yeah
