Is, or did you chrome your stainless trim? hope this wasn't a lame question, I have some stainless trim, both interior and exterior and a grill that are stainless but would take eternity to polish and may not get desired finish when done. Thanks for input. Any referrals?
Usually you don't need to chrome plate stainless steel. You have it buffed to a high luster that looks as good as chrome plating, that's the beauty of stainless steel. And most companies that do this on a daily basis can take out any dents before they buff.
the only reason i can think of is a 60's style show typle build.some builders plated everything so the shiny parts match. thats why we find plated aluminum.
So any referrals on platters, or polishers? What can I expect to pay, or is it an open wallet policy? And no you get what you pay for comments, that's a given.
Unless you use a chrome shop that has a good/great reputation, it will probably start to peel or start flaking later. You are better off having them polished, than plating it will be half the cost.
Well,my 56 lincoln came from the factory with flash plated stainless.I think many others did also. The stainless can be polished except that you go thru the flashplating real easy.I asked the chromer i used and he said they wont flash chrome anymore. And just for an idea of polishing, look at the piece behind the rear wheel on my avatar{also in my album]I was quated 1000 to metal finish and polish.I did all my own,not perfect but nice. There are metal polishers everywhere.... If you had a "location" in your location designation it would be easy to tell you where to look.
Johnny G here on the hamb had stainless polished on his 56,looked awesome, Santa fe springs .L.A. area
Don't take it wrong, and not grumpy. All I want is a reference to a quality platter, polisher. And any first hand accounts of good work....on the East Coast

If you want to polish it at the best price and great work send it to Brightwork Restoration in Fall River, Ma. Tel.508 672 3931. Now here is the deal. I had a Corvette restoration shop for 20 years and some of the earlier stainless parts were chromed from the factory. Even some hubcaps! The reason being was it is more cost effective to flash chrome stainless than polish it! trust me on this it is in the ***embly manual! If it is flash chromed you will need to unchrome it before you can polish it! Hope this helps. Al

Advance Plating in Nashville Tn does most of the ISCA circut cars in the midwest. It certainly makes the stainless stand out
I did a bunch of work on a chopped 54 belair and the A pillar stainless had to be cut and welded, the owner wasn't completely satisfied with the finished tig welds and after the 3rd set he sent them to the chrome shop to be plated, they looked good but if your stainless is workable and polished that is still the # 1 way to go and more finacially feasible since it has to be metal finished before chroming anyway. Sides, chrome doesn'ty stick to stainless real well anyway.
I discussed this with the guys at Ogden Chrome a few months ago. They said that they would not chrome stainless at all. They are a top notch outfit and know their stuff. They said it was a bad idea.
