Customs Chrome Reverse Blues...

  1. Diamondback will make them for you... That's the next big purchase after I get the wheel situation nailed down.

Will they do them on their bias ply looking tires or just regular radials? Regular radials would kill the look. Their site shows the tripe stripe the same as Coker with the wide center stripe but maybe they will do a custom version as well?

  3. Well, I'm going with OT radial sizes so I can't answer that question, but I don't know why not. IIRC it's $40 more per tire over the cost of adding a wide white.

Not sure they only show it as an option on one tire. The one I added a link to and their example Type C shows as the two thin and one thick.

  5. They told me they could do it on most tires to your specs.

I do see on the Auburn Deluxe page of their site where you select your size there is an option for "custom" whitewalls. "Call for price" - I still wonder if they would be three equal width lines....

  7. I see the 'estimated' delivery date from Wheel Vintiques is creeping ever further....

I canceled that order and have started the process for a set of Astros. I've been assured there's no issues with supply chains here.

I have had two sets made... I was picky and wanted FoMoCo Centers... I can't remember the Company's name( but they did have a fire awhile back and I don't think they recovered from it) I waited months, and months for both sets ( on the 35 in the picture and 51 Ford Woodie I owned).. They had a problem getting useable centers that weren't pitted.. I had Astro Supreme's on my 62 Monterey hard top and they looked great.. Don't get the unilug .. Can't remember the brand , but bought direct 4.5 Ford pattern from them .. 35 5w.jpg

Had wheels in back order for a year through Coker Tire got tired of waiting and gave Paulson a try a month and a half went by so I called got every excuse in the book so I let my credit card handle it got my wheels a week later in wheel smith boxes there not true chrome reverse but are not smoothes either well done wheels and look good on the car. GO DIRECT TO WHEEL SMITH NOT PAULSON!

  12. You know, Steve, I grew up with real chrome reverse and there are times when only one thing will complete your vision/goal. I don't have any advise, only sympathy for your predicament.Last summer when I was ordering parts for that project, there was the occasion that there might be 2 choices but only one could be found anywhere. Simple decision. Sometimes having money in your pocket isn't enough. :)

  13. What about used wheel places in your area?. In So Cal we have Collins Wheel in Bellflower, they make them with used parts so you can get a true Ford center (if they or you have them). Then you just have to get them chromed.

The center has to be right or chrome wheels just don't do it for me. They have to be the original centers. It's worth the price to me. JMO. Lippy

A late friend of mine bought this truck in '58, around 1960 he wanted chrome reversed wheels. So he went the the wrecking yard and picked up 4 nice candidates. The truck was a 6- 3speed, so he parked it on the front lawn, jacked up one of the rear corners, and bolted a wheel on, put it in gear, and laid in the grass with sandpaper until the rim shined, turned the wheel around and did the same. After all 4 wheels were shiny, he drilled out the rivets, sanded the centers, and took the parts to the plating shop. After the plating was done, he had them welded under water. If you look closely, you will notice the valve stems are on the inside, as was common at the time. How many of us want something that bad anymore ! He later installed a 427-4 speed, quite a little truck. IMG_9245.JPG IMG_9252.JPG

I was at Collins a few months back and he said I would have to bring him the centers that I want. He’s having trouble getting factory style centers like everyone else.

  17. Even used ones? (I'm assuming the Shoebox style 15" wheels). Wow it's getting rough out there, no biggie if you can find the wheels. Last set he did for me was the Panel truck and I brought in both sets (and found a new wheel application to use for the stock centers for them in the future). I'm going to go back there soon as I need some old Packard wheels re hooped.
