Recently acquired a 56 Chrysler with the 354 Hemi. Looking on line, there are many plug wire kits and the prices vary greatly. Not really looking for cheapest, but something of good quality. Would prefer the long boot type. Recommendations ?
Here is what I use. Accel long insulator wires are perfect replacements for the Chrysler porcelain ones. I use the resistor wires. Then to top the tubes without the factory pans, I reshape the tubes by tapping out a wider flange on top that captures the factory sealing gromet. Finally. to cap them off I get these Toyota rubber caps from the junk yard. Been a while, don't know if they are still common at the 'yard. I found two styles, the one with the R on the lip works best. Need to razor off the big lip on the bottom side. I also gave up the vintage dual point distributor in favor of a modern 340 electronic one. The shaft is about 3/8" too short for the hemi. You can buy an extender from Hot Heads or do what I did - weld on a small extender tab.
@willys36 thanks for the great info. I'm wanting to keep the wires under the stock rectangular covers, so IDK if those Accel wires will work; they look a bit bulkier than stock. As re the distributor, I did the same swap using a new 340 distributor for the one in my 331 Hemi that's going in the 40 Chrysler coupe. Had to make the short extension, too; it's pinned on
I just finished a 331 for a guy and he wanted the covers. I used an aftermarket electronic distributor since his engine came without one. I used Pertronix wired that are compatible with the unit. Seem to be good quality.
