I understand that theres an old tick to turn your gearbox into a "slick shift",that involves grinding off every second tooth on the syncrho's to allow a quicker shift without having to back on the gas. Can anyone tell me whether does this does actually work and if so how exactly is it done?? Thanks
Try P***onPerformance.com or call Brewer's Performance, 937-698-4259. Both companies deal only in A-833 transmissions and may be able to help. I've had good luck with Brewers. It was a mod done back in the day, mostly on drag only machines.....
this was also done with ford toploaders. 'pro shifting' http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/pro_shifted_transmission/ not really great for a street car. edit oh yeah, I don't think you can downshift very well/easily with these
I have a Saginaw 4 speed I 'Crash Boxed' for my 11 second Hot Rod. It is quite abit of work grinding off every other syncronizer tooth on 2nd, 3rd & 4th gear (input), and every other tooth off the inside of the Syncronizer sleeves (only the 2nd gear side of your 1st-2nd sleeve) without touching the surrounding teeth. I use the br*** synchro blocking rings with the teeth ground off on 2nd, 3rd,& 4th. It works great for race only although the saginaw only lasts me a (short) season, to drive on the street (not recommended) I 'Double Clutch" like a truck. I finally stepped to Super T-10 which I'm having Liberty High Performance Products 'Pro Shift'. I have a magazine somewhere with an article with this modification on a Mopar trans, I'll try to find it and copy it for you if you'd like. Anybody need any Saginaw 4 Speed parts
Contact the folks at Joe Liberty's shop. They have been building manual transmissions for decades and they know this stuff inside and out! They're a local shop...I walk by there on occ***ion...but they have customers nationwide and can ship whole transmissions or parts anywhere you need them. If nothing else, give 'em a call and rap with one of their trans experts about what you have in mind...they'll point you in the right direction. Chrysler "crash-boxes" used to be one of their specialties! http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypMap.py?Pyt...VLM9ZsNKE7zp&stat=:pos:3:regular:regT:4:fbT:3
