I think I found and engine and ****** today for my 27 coupe. It's setting in a 1957 (Desoto?), I never took my eyes off the engine and I was trying not to act too excited when he said $300. It has poly heads with "Spitfire" on the valve covers. A push botton ****** (torqueflight?). But the intake manifold looked like a air gap?? Never seen one of those? I was on my way to work, when I stopped and didn't have much time. What can you all tell me about it? I won't be able to see it again until Monday. Thanks
spitfire makes it a Chrysler, not Desoto. All those old Mopar v8's had intakes that sat up off the block with a valley pan underneath. Front and center on the block is the stamped I.D. two letters then two numbers- like "NE55" will tell you the year and model of it.
Airgap ain't nothin' new...let's see my Hemi's got one...my Nailhead's got one...Olds, Stude, Caddy, Y-block...it might be some new hi-tech design for a SBC but it's old news in the rest of the hot rod world...
kisam, let me know the numbers stamped on top, front, left hand side of block. i can let you know exactly what motor you have._________dan
I've seen Spitfire engines in Canadian built 56 Dodges. Remember that with Chrysler there are almost always exceptions to any rule. It will be worthwhile to make no ***umption until you doublecheck the numbers.
