Yeah, we've already turned away about 200 of those fenderless post 34 trucks. The ones that are approved we felt had the right proportions and were cool enough to let in. Not sure about that model A with the smoke stack, we might have to look into that one!

I just went to the VLV site to read the rules. I read that any fenderless post '34 vehicle had to be pre-approved.

Now I don't claim to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but if you saw 5 fenderless post 34 trucks they MUST have been pre-approved ...Right? How's that bending the rules?

    Hi guys,
I think i better chime in here - where Kevan "Sinus" Sledge left off. By the time Easter weekend rolls around we'll have close to 700 cars pre registered , and we know for a fact that another 200-300 cars will want to enter on the day of.

It is true that we have approved 1 tiny handful of post 1934 fenderless pickup's, but like Sledge said, we Shifters & VLV staff took much time to assess the individual car and give it the go ahead for many reasons - proportion and overall stance, style, and look. When someone sends in pictures of a BITCHEN black 36 Ford pick up, chopped, channeled, painted nice with a bed and grille that are equally proportioned to the body, then the owner went through much trouble to put the soul of an early Cadillac engine and Lesalle trans, big & little 16" wide white walls - its obvious that the vehicle is miles apart from any Rebel Rodzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz type of cover car, and that it definitely deserves to be in . It is true, however, that the the VLV site states "All post 34 fenderless pickups need pre approval".

As for the model A sedan with the vertical pipe, We emailed the owner , asked a million questions, then asked for further photo's prior to approval. The car is powered by an early 4 cylinder overhead valve engine and that pipe is nothing more than an exhaust pipe. Trust us, the days of smoke stack diesels inside our show grounds is over!

We have indeed turned away so many 40's,50's ( and even 60's) fenderless cars & trucks, that we can't even count - yes, its probably close to 200 ! We're taking back our car show - to the way it was, and its going to be miles better than its been in recent years. So, if you notice a couple post 1934 fenderless pick ups in the event it was because we all thought they were nice enough to partake in the fun.

Hope this clarifies things. Take care

  6. Lets face it, 90% of the people at the show will be drunk by 10am anyway! So its not really a problem!

I thought this years show sucked (I'm just getting an early start on the "slagging off VLV thread" that will no doubt follow the show)

Btw, Chuckles Garage, i'm not being sarcastic when i ask what car did you register for the show? Just curious. Also, hows my old RPU coming along that Steve Cabalero bought from me?

    Take care

Hahaha....no sarcasm taken. And just throwing in my 2 cents. I read it this morning, and even though I mentioned all the quality cars there too.....I thought to myself....man....looks like I was being a prick. The internet is a wonderful thing.

The RPU is doing good! Its stalled a bit since Cab has had his third kid....gotta take care of the new papa stuff first. The 59ab engine is done, and the 32 frame is near-complete. A long way to go though. The body looks just like it did when it left your place, except that is has chopped windshield stanchions. Unfortunately, nothing at the shop is close enough to being a driver to make it there. I was gonna wear my spectator shoes. If you guys want gassers there, I could bring the shop car....its a 62 Falcon A/GS with a blown nailhead. It's not finished, but its damn cool. Heres The Car

So....after being a jerk, and making myself look like a tool for being a negative nancy (my wife always tells me that) Axle has invited me to bring the "Strange Bird" 1962 A/GS Falcon Futura to display in the Gasser Reunion area. I can't say how stoked I am for this. I have absolutely nothing against the Shifters or this event, and feel like a total toolbox for my post.

Now kids.....if your'e reading this and think to yourself "dang, I can be a jerk and cool things will happen to me?" your'e probably wrong. hahahaha. Thanks Axle!

Heres the car (it will be a lot farther along at the show)

This sounds like it's going to be a great show this year!

By the way, if anyone from El Paso is going to Viva and willing to bring a car for me, send me a PM. I'll pay for your gas and trouble...

When I heard he was playing I planned on skipping a bunch of classes and driving my 52 there from Mass. Then I realized you have to be 21 to attend any of the other events! What the hell?!

It is worth the drive just to hit the car show........Plus, I think you only have to be 18 to hit the Brothels.
