I dig a good cigar too, but I understand the smell of a cheap-o cigar can really suck for some folks. The guys from Linden/Edison used to call cheap cigars Guinea Stinkers. (lol)

I like your idea of putting it in the dash. Can you fit a small drawer that would pull out from inside the glovebox?

I'd size it to hold 6 Coronas (2x4x8") plus they sell small plastic inserts that hold water for keeping the cigars fresh. It should also have a lid on it.

Mahogany would be really cool for the outside, but please do NOT listen to Highlander about the choice of wood for the inside (sorry Jocko). Honduran cedar is the wood of choice because it holds humidity & doesn't impart any taste to the sticks.

I would carve a slot in the side that a cutter & a book of wood matches would drop into.

Sounds like a neat touch for cruising around.

Can I suggest modifying the ashtray compartments in late model full size cars to work in your application? These are out of my '90 Lincoln, one in each rear door handle and an ashtray and lighter in the front, they have a pull out ashtray, plus a lighter built in, and a door, which could be inlaid the way you want, I would think you would find things like this on older Lincolns and Caddies too. If you are good you could modify the doors with a small actuator and make them slide open with a hidden button. [IMG]

I love a good cigar, one of my favorite relaxing days is to run up to Deadwood and visit the cigar store. I don't much care for stale cigar smoke in my car but do occasionally smoke one with the window down. I think a humidor is a fun idea.

  10. Thanks for a pic! Yes, this is what I'm thinking... although I'd like a larger ash tray.

    Anyone else?

Otherwise I think I'll make it all. I'm thinking I will. I'll probably make a drawer pop out of the dash... then slide. It will be made of stainless with a lighter, and have a glass ash tray that can be removed and washed. Just need to find the right glass ash tray for cigars. I have seen some of the sights, so doubt it will be a problem finding.

I've also yet to pic a color of car and interior, so this is all still up in air right now with mother of pearl and ash tray color.

I have a section of the Merc dash where it will pop out. If I fall short with room, I'll then use the glove box. But I'd like to retain that space. Thanks for everyone thinking out loud. Surprised we don't have anyone yet saying they have a humidor in their car. I also see tons of cigar smokers around cars.

I once had a roadster project that I whittled down a Austin Healy dash into the cockpit, it had a pipe holder and ash tray that I retained. It was neat. Scrapped the project as I found better sheet metal to play with though. Thanks all, keep you posted.

    This is also a surprise...

No sorry needed bro. My point was getting a look vs a functional humidor. I get the reason for cedar in the real thing. My thought was maximizing limited space while getting the look you're after.

I cant stand the smell of cigarettes much less cigars. I sold about 15 of my collection in the last couple of years to random people and first question ask is "has it been smoked in?" What's the mileage and is the price firm? Don't mind those that smoke but just cant deal with it in my cars or home/shop.
